We’ve all been there. Wake up one day and you’re literally just tired. You lack inspiration, motivation, you’re bored out of your mind and you just don’t know why. Something is missing. This feeling confuses you because you have basically everything you want and need. Your life is going great. Skin looks good, hair, nails and eyebrows slayed, good grades, you’ve been sticking to your exercise regimen, eating healthy and you have a loving, healthy relationship. So you start to blame everything else…
Well maybe I didn’t get enough sleep. (Even though you got 9.5 hours)
If I was involved in some more groups, then I wouldn’t be so bored. (When you’re in 4 clubs that keep constantly you busy)
Maybe if my friends were more spontaneous then I would have more adventure in my life. (When your friends just invited you out last night)
Maybe if I didn’t have to paper due tonight, then I would be in a better mood. (Even though you’ve been in college 2 years now and know that homework is apart of it)
All of these excuses pop up, but for some reason you can’t pin point the exact cause of the way you feel. You just don’t understand. You, my friend, are suffering from a TIRED SOUL.
Matthew 16:26 tells us “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” This is the King James version of the Bible. However, if you’re anything like me, I prefer an easier translation so I can actually understand what I am reading lol.
One of my favorite versions of the Bible is the Message version. This is a version that can be understood by someone who has never stepped foot in a church before and that is so awesome to me. The same verse reads “What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?”
To me this verse is saying that you can gain the whole entire world and get everything you want, but you’ll lose yourself. What is actually worth losing your soul?
You spend day after day waking up and going through the motions without taking the time to acknowledge and thank God. In this process of chasing everything else, you lose yourself. You lose perspective. In fact, you forget that this life is so so temporary.
We’re so focused on temporary things and pleasures that we lose sight of the purpose. While you’re running after good hair, skin, bodies, traveling, shopping and grades you miss God’s call.
Maybe when we’re tired like this, God is sending us a notification of a missed call. He’s trying to tell us to take a step back, pray and give Him some of our time. He’s trying to tell us that we’re losing ourselves.
We put too much time and energy into things that essentially don’t matter, causing us to fall short of what God has purposed us to do. Everyday we should be nourishing ourselves. Hungry and thirsty for time with God. He is the only one that can restore us.
The truth is, all the sleep, money, and material things in the world don’t matter when it’s your soul that’s tired.
