Identity Christis

I got so much excitement in finding a befitting photo for this title. “Identity Christis”….. get it? If you don’t understand now, you will 🙂

Anyway, it is no surprise that people have trouble figuring out who they are. Our world suffocates us with so many standards of how we should think, act, feel and look. We’ve become so accustomed to it, that we hold each other to these same standards. Women and men alike have very harsh requirements to follow if they want to be considered remotely “normal.”

Well, I am here to inform you that “normal” is not what you want to be. “Normal” goes against everything Christ created for us to be. God created us to be set apart. Misfits, as my brother would say. People who refuse to be ashamed to follow Christ and let the world know that they do.

We are constantly seeking validation from and trying to impress people who aren’t  even comfortable with themselves. This makes absolutely no sense, yet we do it. We change who we are, change how we look, we change what we like and create this illusion of false happiness for a person who will probably change their minds about us next month.

Don’t get me started on the fronts people put up on social media. “I’m bouta glo’ up” “#RelationshipGoals” “Making moves in silence” “Ain’t nobody got me, but me”…. The list goes on and it is TIRING.

Don’t you guys get tired of measuring your success, happiness, and life plans by the “accomplishments” of others?  Most of the time you’re comparing yourself to false illusions. Social media  perfectly allows people to post what they want you to see and hide what they don’t want you to see.

You don’t have to be a baller, you don’t have to be “bad,” you don’t have to have long hair and curves to be pretty. You don’t have to travel the world to soul search, you don’t have to be the smartest student, you don’t have to be in a relationship to be happy, you don’t have to have sex with your boyfriend/girlfriend to keep them, you don’t have to love Kim & Kanye, you don’t have to dress like everyone else, you don’t have to associate with friends that mean you no good, and you most certainly don’t have to apologize for being who you are.

Luke 16:15 reads, “He said to them, ‘You are the ones who justify yourself in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.” So in other words, everything that people are chasing, God is not even pleased with!! Riches, fame, body alterations, frivolously spending money and travelling, the “self-made” mentalities, hardened hearts, and selfish acts all mean nothing to God. He isn’t pleased. He sees our hearts and true intentions and he sees right through your fake social media happiness. He sees right through to the core of your being. Right down to the core of your existence. You’re chasing things that don’t even glorify or further his kingdom. You’re chasing dreams and goals that you haven’t even run by Him first. You’re making our own plans, without seeking His. Everyone is so entertained by the fluff and false images, but you don’t need to be. When you know who you are, it is much easier to accept this.

You might be asking, well who am I??? In the simplest yet most powerful words, You are who GOD says you are. Plainly put, we are a PIECE of God. This means that he is our source. We stem from him, which makes sense being how He is our Heavenly Father. With this being said, the only way to find out who we truly are is to come back and look at our Father. Our source. Just like people do ancestry studies to find out where they come from, it is time for us to start looking at and studying Christ.

You don’t find out who you are by seeking other people and asking them, because quite frankly, no one can help you see that but God. We need to go back to our source (God) and discover HIS value, then we’ll know ours and won’t be looking for other people to define us.

So if you’re in the middle of an “identity crisis”, looking for an answer just refer back to the title and remember:

My identity …. Christ is.

Be Blessed 🙂
